Day Off

I took Friday off, I had good intentions but when the bell rang I failed to answer the call and went straight home. My body must have really needed to sleep because I passed out on the couch for 2 hours. It was a bit disappointing since I set my weekly goal to make five consecutive workouts-I fell one short missing Friday's kettlebell session. Earlier in the day I donated blood and the Red Cross said no exercise for the rest of the day so that kind of gave me an excuse to slough off.

Even though not evidenced by skipping Friday I feel my endurance has improved since starting in August. My recovery time is lessening between sets and I am able to do these intense workout sessions back to back, something I was not able to do early on. Initially, I would workout every other day allowing my body to recover from the shock I was putting it through.

As much as I love Joust and the intense workouts, I have a quiet, meditative side that really enjoys long, less intense, maintain a pace cardio workouts in which I can get in a groove, listen to my music (I tried playing some Van Morrison at Joust and did not  go over well) and just zone out.  After waking Saturday morning I went to the local community center and joined.  I have been a member there on and off for the last ten years.  The center has a very nice cardio room well stocked with treadmills, elliptical cross trainers, bikes and my personal favorite the NuStep machine.  Mostly I use the NuStep and will rotate the elliptical and bike in every third or fourth session, I feel little, if any, pain or stress on my knees while doing these three machines however, it does take some experimentation with the height adjustment on the elliptical to get the right incline.  Downstairs there is a pool and ideally I'd love to get back in the water, swimming has always been my forte and is a part of my long range fitness regime.

Today, I donned the headphones and rode the NuStep, even got a little interval training in, and finished off with a nice long stretching session.  This has been another nice by product, my flexibility and balance has improved.  Keep on keeping on.
